Bloob, a tiny video game
Bloob is a tiny video game made in a tiny fantasy video game console called PICO-8. It's a platformer with no enemies, no text, and no score. Just you, the bloob, and the world to explore.

This post is a work in progress. I’ll update with GIFs and text soon.
Game
A while back I wrote about making a tiny video game and then I wrote about the prototype of the game.
Now Bloob is done. Ish. I need to update some sprites and grab the PICO-8 cartridge and publish it here.
Let me tell you more about the game, its features, how I worked on it, and what I’ve learned. Maybe what I’ll do next.
Bloob
But first. Bloob. What is bloob? Why bloob?
As I wrote in the description above. Bloob is a tiny video game made in a tiny fantasy video game called PICO-8. It’s a platformer with no enemies, no text, and no score. Just you, the bloob, and the world to explore.
I don’t know why it’s bloob. I like the word bloob. I like jelly. And I kind of like dungeons? Well I like the idea of dungeons. And the PICO-8 color palette had nice colors that reminded me of jelly. So, Bloob it was.
I’ve grown up playing video games. I’ve always loved video games and video game culture. Not necessarily playing them so much, more just.. being around them. I like the art, the obsession, when a game tickles your brain in the right spots, it’s a great feeling and no other entertainment can match that for me. I’ve wanted to make more games quick, and PICO-8 is a great fit for that. It’s focus on limitation makes it a great tool to explore smaller projects.
